Shanghaied on the Willamette
With vocal harmonies and a fleet of acoustic instruments, Shanghaied on the Willamette performs songs plundered from land and sea. Their lively music reaches back into maritime traditions, to fishing, paddling, sailing, and to the early days of Portland. Fiddle, banjo, harmonica, bodhran, guitar and mandola blend with voices to tell you a story, make your foot tap, and bring a smile to your face.

Guitarist/vocalist Norman Sylvester was recently inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. He is one of the respected Blues artists in Portland. His guitar work invokes T-Bone, toughened by an Albert-Collins-by-way-of-
LaRhonda Steele is Portland’s First Lady of the Blues and the 2016 Muddy Award winner for Best Female Vocalist presented by the Cascade Blues Association. She appears at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival every year.

Based in Portland, the band is a quartet created by musicians from Cuba and USA. They blend a vast knowledge of different beats together in classic and modern latin songs, exuding energy, happiness, and encouraging you to dance. They play genres such as Salsa, Timba, Son, Merengue, Cumbia, Latin Jazz, etc. The band consists of a band leader, vocals, piano and bass piano player.
