Shanghaied on the Willamette

Shanghaied on the Willamette

With vocal harmonies and a fleet of acoustic instruments, Shanghaied on the Willamette performs songs plundered from land and sea. Their lively music reaches back into maritime traditions, to fishing, paddling, sailing, and to the early days of Portland. Fiddle, banjo, harmonica, bodhran, guitar and mandola blend with voices to tell you a story, make your foot tap, and bring a smile to your face.

The Norman Sylvester Band featuring LaRhonda Steele

Norman Sylvester and LaRhonda SteeleGuitarist/vocalist Norman Sylvester was recently inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. He is one of the respected Blues artists in Portland. His guitar work invokes T-Bone, toughened by an Albert-Collins-by-way-of-Gatemouth aggressiveness. He remains a first-rate storyteller with vocal and instrumental chops that do justice to his unique lyric vision.

LaRhonda Steele is Portland’s First Lady of the Blues and the 2016 Muddy Award winner for Best Female Vocalist presented by the Cascade Blues Association. She appears at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival every year.
