I've been teaching almost 10 years here (Ho Chi Minh city). If you’re sensitive to pollution live in the suburb (25 min by bus or motorbike) of HCMC. Sometimes it’s 5 times less polluted than the city center (I use Air Matters app). Lots of trees and parks. Lots of language schools, private schools and International schools in District 7.
pay $1000s for a tefl certificate? talk about a scam……
I am. Planning to go Vietnam nxt month and came acrosa this video. Are u free to be a tourguide? 😊
Hanoi is way better to teach in than HMC
Hey dude I've just got to saigon from Cape town👍this was very helpful because I want to move to hanoi soon.
How much do you reckon you need to start out in Ho Chi Minh? I read you need three month's rent upfront and a deposit for single accommodation. Is this true?
Loving your videos. Seriously looking at coming next year. Looking into taking a year of work. Maybe not go back and stay there.
If you prefer culture and more laidback environment you choose Hanoi. If you prefer a vibrant and more western oriented city it's Saigon. Also in Saigon people are more friendly and open.
Good insight and great overview. Two questions: architecturally is there an area in HCMC similar to the Old Quarter, Hanoi? Also, is there a demand for Business English to be taught in HCMC or Hanoi? Thanks and Cheers 🍺🍺🍺
Do I need a bachelors degree to legally teach in Vietnam? I am interested in your TESOL class in Saigon, but the need (if there is one) for a degree would put the brakes on that.
Very informative, I had no clue where to start in Vietnam however now I got some idea
Hanoi is a chaotic dump of a place. Boring little shops selling the same things, uninteresting food and filled with downmarket western backpackers. There is no respect for your space, the noise is appalling and you risk life or injury each time you cross a road or even walk along uneven rubbish strewn pavements. The locals (unless they are petering you by selling something to you or at a reception desk) are completely indifferent to visitors bordering on hostile. So you travellers you have been warned . and for once you have another view.
Thank you for sharing!
English teacher = Nothern? 😊
Amazing country! Hanoi all day every day… That city is like no other.
exactly the video I wanted!
The courses at ninjateacher are only for degree hokders though, that sucks
Và tóm lại là anh ý yêu Hà Nội hơn THÀNH PHỐ HỒ CHÍ MINH thân yêu! Tôi cũng yêu thủ đô Hà Nội ngàn năm văn hiến của nước CHXHCN VIỆT NAM <3
Most people that i know usually call it Saigon or simply “City”. “HCM City” is just for filling in forms (like applying a job, banks, police stations….).
GREAT comparison video! Seriously… Such useful information. Thank you!
My parents are from Hanoi, but I prefer more Saigon. It's more modern and development, I think that's because I'm more Western oriented. Lol
Ho Chi Minh city.
Any body know what would be a reasonable price for buying a motor bike? And what the process of getting a motor bike license.
your weblink for your HostGator site does not work. error 504 time out,
Alex, I am making explorations into doing teaching in Vietnam after I finish my B.A(Hons) and have spoken with TEFL, but I wonder also about on top of your teaching jobs do you make money from these videos as well and anything else?
What about pollution in HCMC/Saigon and the increase in cancer, fatigue or breathing problems among the population who live there? There are many other towns who offer a good salary and lots of teaching hours. Danang or Nha Trang are just some of the examples. Nha Trang has lots of small schools, agencies, hotels and private hospitals who hire teachers. It is on the beach, with three amazing hot spring and mud bath resorts, lifestyle is more relaxing, people are more friendly. I would strongly recommend it.
What about Nha Trang ? What is the opportunity to teach English there?

Hey Alex, I have a question. I'm a native English speaker and I have a degree in English. I want to teach English in Vietnam, but I'd like to try it before I invest in the Tefl to see if it's something I want to do long term. What do you think are the chances that I would find job(s)?
